How it all got going

In 1961, Harold McCollum treated himself and family to the luxury of a 16’ Shasta used trailer, with the amenities of a sink, stove top and gas lamp! Graduating to the deluxe amenities the next used trailer included a gas refrigerator and a porta-pottie! The next move to a truly self-contained travel trailer meant really traveling in style!

From the interest derived by personal use, a dealership was established in 1967, featuring new travel trailers. Office consisted of one of the trailers located on the concrete apron of an abandoned Safeway store. Attending the Dodger Stadium RV Show that fall resulted in being exposed to motor homes, then in their infancy. That culminated in acquiring the Winnebago Industry franchise the following spring. We still handle Winnebago products to this day, making us one of the oldest dealers of their products. Fewer than 3% of their dealers nationwide have received their Circle of Excellence award as many times as McCollum Modern RV’s.

For twenty-five consecutive years our company has held an over night camp out promotion. We average about 135 recreational vehicles camped out on the property, and about 700 RVers participating. There is a four piece band, beer wagon, catered barbeque, prizes, games and other fun activities included. Also, for over twenty-five years we have held an annual “Champagne Party” during the winter, drawing several hundred RVers to participate.

Treating customers as our employers, and appreciating our successful existence can only be attributed to fair dealing, honest representations, satisfactory servicing of products, and adequate stocking and display of parts and accessories.

Without question, Gayle Kimmel, representing Northwest Trailer Sales, rendered now NTP Distribution the most help by any representative of products we’ve handled consistently over more than two decades at our promotions. Also throughout the years, the assistance and guidance he provided our accessory department was the absolute best. NTP can be proud to have had a real gentleman and booster representing them.
